Personal Microderm FAQ

Who should use the Personal Microderm?

Anyone with any skin type! The Personal Microderm is recommended for any individual looking for smoother, softer and brighter skin.

When can I expect to see results from using the Personal Microderm?

We promise that after your first treatment you will have softer, smoother skin. After eight to twelve weeks of consistent use, individuals may see a reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and hyperpigmentation.

How does the Personal Microderm work?

The Personal Microderm is a once a week microdermabrasion treatment from the comfort of your own home! A spinning disc embedded with aluminum oxide crystals exfoliates away the entire top layer of dead, dull skin, while a vacuum suction triggers the production of collagen and elastin. When you do this treatment weekly, you're increasing the cell turnover rate which tells your body to produce an entirely new layer of fresh skin, while you're removing the old, damaged layer. This means you can say goodbye to the appearance of enlarged pores, dark spots, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture, and your skincare products can penetrate up to 20x deeper!

Why won't my Personal Microderm device charge?

The Personal Microderm Classic, Pro, Plus, and Man devices must be plugged in to operate. The power cord included with each device is not a charger, and the device will not turn on unless it is connected to power. This is to ensure a steady stream of energy to the device for optimal performance.

Can the Personal Microderm be used on the neck or body?

The Personal Microderm can absolutely be used on the neck and other parts of your body! Our favorite areas are the chest, feet and hands. The Personal Microderm does come with body discs and a body cap that's specifically designed to cover larger body areas.

How often should I use the Personal Microderm?

We suggest using the Personal Microderm once every 5-7 days! Microdermabraasion removes the top layer of dead, dull skin and your body needs time to rejuvenate.

Does the Personal Microderm work?

Does the Personal Microderm remove blackheads?

While the Personal Microderm doesn’t suck out blackheads, it does remove the top layer of dead, dull skin that is covered in dirt and debris that cause blackheads and breakouts.

What is the difference between the Personal Microderm Classic and Pro?

The Classic is our standard device that has 1 speed, classic caps, and comes with 4 discs. The Pro is best for sensitive skin and is our most user-friendly device because it has 2 speeds(one is slower, so it removes less dead skin per pass), it has smooth glide caps, and comes with a full range of discs!

How should I clean the Personal Microderm?

Rinse the cap and filter between each use with warm water and soap. Be sure to replace the disc every 3-4 uses, and replace the filter every 3-4 months. Wipe down the body of the device as needed, and store your Personal Microderm in a dry place.

How often should I replace my Personal Microderm discs?

Each disc will last 3-4 uses. Most treatments will take three to five minutes. The size of the area being treated and the length of each treatment will ultimately determine how long a disc can be used.

Can I use the Personal Microderm if I have rosacea?

If you have rosacea we suggest consulting with your dermatologist. We’ve had customers who have seen great improvement with their rosacea, and others who haven’t. Each case is different.

Do I apply pressure when using the Personal Microderm?

No pressure is necessary, instead, just lightly glide the tool over your skin and allow the vacuum to do the work. Watch our video here for more information.

What happens if you apply too much pressure?

When too much pressure is applied, the Personal Microderm may exfoliate beyond the dead skin layer. This may result in redness or light scabbing. The vacuum suction of Personal Microderm is calibrated perfectly to remove the dead, dull layer of skin. Do not apply pressure.

Can I use Personal Microderm more than once a week?

No. The Personal Microderm should only be used once a week. Microdermabrasion removes the top layer of dead, dull skin, and your body needs one week to rejuvenate. Be patient and use the device consistently to see results.

Which Personal Microderm disc color should I use?

Everyone’s skin is different. Some sensitive skin types may never need to increase their exfoliation level by moving to a different disc color; others with more tolerant skin will need to change to a higher disc level to see more significant results. Ultimately, the disc color used depends on your treatment goals. If you want a more intense treatment, and if your skin has adjusted to the Personal Microderm, try a more intense disc. However, we recommend everyone begins their first treatment by using the white training disc. If your skin responds well, that is a good indication that you can move on to the grey disc the following week. Each week you can move to the next level based on your skin’s reaction and how intense you’d like your treatment to be. Always remember to gradually and carefully increase the intensity with the disc colors.

Can I use a body disc on the face?

Yes! The face discs and body discs are interchangeable. The larger(body) discs just allow you to treat larger surface areas more quickly.

Can I use the Personal Microderm under my eyes?

No. Do not treat the area where your skin starts to become thinner and more delicate. Typically users can follow the outside of the orbital bone as a guide.

What should I put on after using the Personal Microderm?

First, you should rinse the dead skin off your face with a toner or water. We highly recommend using our recovery sheet mask that soothes the skin and hydrates! A hydrating moisturizer or serum works great too.

What does the Personal Microderm do for the skin?

Long-term use of the Personal Microderm diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduces the appearance of pore size, evens out texture, and reduces the appearance of dark spots.

Is the Personal Microderm worth it?

Yes! The average cost of one microdermabrasion treatment in 2019 is $136. For the same price, you can purchase a Personal Microderm and have weekly microdermabrasion treatments in the comfort of your own bathroom!

Is it safe to use the Personal Microderm if I have Botox or Juvaderm?

You can absolutely continue to use the Personal Microderm after receiving injections and fillers. We do suggest waiting about 2-3 weeks after your botox/filler just so that they can settle!

Can I use retinol and the Personal Microderm?

We recommend waiting 24-48 hours before and after a Personal Microderm treatment for applying retinol products.

Does the PMD Personal Microderm hurt?

No, the Personal Microderm absolutely does not hurt! We always suggest starting with the white training disc, which is why it comes ready to go in your Personal Microderm. Test it on your inner forearm, so that you can learn how the suction and exfoliation feel, and how quickly to glide the device over your skin!

Does microdermabrasion remove hair?

No, the Personal Microderm exfoliates the skin, but does not remove hair.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion uses suction and exfoliation to remove the outermost layer of dead skin. Removing this top layer reveals fresh, younger looking skin in its place.

What is the difference between microdermabrasion and microneedling?

Great question! They’re very different treatments. The Personal Microderm is a dermatologist grade microdermabrasion treatment. It uses a spinning disc embedded with aluminum oxide crystals to exfoliate away the entire top layer of dead, dull skin, and triggers the cell turnover process which tells your body to produce a new, fresh layer of skin! The vacuum suction increases the production of both collagen and elastin, while increasing blood flow to the surface of the skin. When you do this treatment weekly, you’re consistently removing the old, damaged skin and replacing it with new. This minimizes the appearance of enlarged pores, dark spots, hyper pigmentation, evens out skin tone and texture, fades fine lines and wrinkles, and by removing that barrier of dead skin your skincare can penetrate up to 20x deeper and be more effective. Microneedling uses tiny needles to puncture the skin, which triggers collagen production and the healing process. But it isn’t going to give you that heavy exfoliation.

Can I use the PMD Personal Microderm if I have acne?

Yes! We do suggest avoiding microderming over active acne. But, one of the best benefits that you’ll see is that by removing that top layer of dead, dull skin- your skincare products (cleansers, serums, moisturizers, acne washes) can penetrate up to 20x deeper and be more effective. This means that your products can finally work the way they should because they’re actually getting deep into your skin and pores so that they can be effective! Not only will it do this, but the Personal Microderm will also fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation from previous blemishes!

When do I use the blackhead cap with the PMD Personal Microderm Elite Pro?

We recommend using the blackhead cap after a microderm treatment. Do not use a disc with the blackhead cap.

How do you remove the disc to change them out?

Pull directly up to remove disc. To put another disc on the device, push disc directly down.
